Wanted, Den Chiefs

A Scout who is looking to obtain a leadership position within the troop to achieve their next rank can consider the position of Den Chief.  A Den Chief is a boy scout who assists the Cub Scout Den Leader.  The Den Chief is a role model for Cub Scouts and helps encourage the cubs to join Boy Scouts.  Some of the recent scouts in Troop 899 who have served as Den Chiefs are Josh Murdock, Zach Huber, Chris Hamlett, Hunter Crouse, Paul Hubner, Andrew Brannon, Steven Gardner, and Eric Celmer. A scout who wishes to be a Den Chief must have attained the rank of First Class, and completed the on-line Den Chief Training.  Scouts must have the approval of the Scoutmaster and the Cubmaster of the Pack. If you want to be a Den Chief, please inform the leadership of Troop 899.

REI Backpacking Basics Class for Philmont Scouts, May 29

Scouts,
We have a few spots left in the REI Backpacking Basics class on May 29th 7:00p-8:30p.  This class is geared toward those scouts headed for Philmont.  The class size is limited so I would ask that you only register for this class if you are thinking about Philmont in the near future.  To attend Philmont you must be 14 years old or have completed the 8th grade and be 13 years old by the date you arrive at Philmont.

To register follow the link included in this email.    http://www.rei.com/AddSessionToCart?sessionId=90535

For those that are attending the class we will look to carpool where possible.

There will be a regular Troop meeting held at FUMC on May 29th for all those scouts not attending the REI class.

Thanks,
John Brannon

Class B Uniform Orders

We will once again be ordering our Class B attire from Skylight Creative Ideas. The order form is attached to this e-mail.  Your clothing options are t-shirts (short and long-sleeved), sweat shirts (crew neck and hooded), polo shirts, and baseball caps.  Please be advised that these shirts are a 50/50 blend, so they will shrink.

The final day for ordering will be Thursday, May 29th.  This will allow adequate time to confirm the order, get the order in, and hopefully distribute the shirts before summer camp.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Manor/Hubner Eagle Court of Honor, Volunteers Needed

The Manar and Hubner families are seeking a handful of volunteers for each of the following activities associated with Travis and Paul’s upcoming Eagle Court of Honor.

Saturday, May 31, 7:00 p.m. – Reception set up in Friendship Hall –  We need to set up tables, chairs and decorations.  This will probably take about an hour or so.

Sunday, June 1,  3:10 p.m.  Make final set up of food items for reception, replenish serving trays and pour beverages as needed.  (We already have two experienced volunteers who will lead this activity but they need a few more hands to make it run smoothly.)

Sunday, June1,  about 4:15 p.m.  Tear down event, put tables and chairs away, take out garbage, clean FUMC kitchen items used and make the hall ready for the next event.  This will probably last a little more than one hour.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Hugh and Karen at bikenbocal@verizon.net.   See you at the COH!

Thank you.

Hugh and Karen
