Every Outing Deserves a Campfire Program

What’s the best way to end a day of activities on a campout? With a campfire program, of course! A campfire program may or may not involve a real fire – a successful program can be conducted around a lantern or a flashlight in locations where fires are not allowed. The program may include skits, stories, and songs and must be planned. Acting as Master of Ceremonies for a campfire meets one of the requirements for the Communications Merit Badge. Oh, and they’re fun! So don’t miss an opportunity to plan and be involved in a campfire. Look at the schedule of outings, and volunteer! Feel free to contact Ken Karlic at ken@karlic.com, or another Communications merit badge counselor.

Calling All Scouts to Help Out at Blue & Gold

Pack 899 is having their annual Blue & Gold Banquet on Sat, March 21st from 3-6 pm at FUMC. They would like to have the Troop’s assistance with the following areas: set up, food serving, game station, silent auction, and clean up. Anyone interested and available, please contact Ken Karlic at ken@karlic.com. Service hours available.

Troop 899 has been selected to attend the 53rd annual West Point Camporee on the grounds of the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. The camporee is scheduled for May 1-3, 2015.

If you are interested in attending please contact me, Jeff Swab, 410-877-1701 ASAP. Right now the troop has 14 scouts and 4 adults signed up to participate. THE EVENT IS LIMITED TO 20 SCOUTS AND 5 ADULTS.

Because of the camporee requirements and since West Point is approximately a 4 hour drive from Fallston we will be required to depart Fallston no later than mid-morning on Friday May 1. If a scout is interested in attending this event will require that they miss school that Friday. Also the troop will be participating as a “Lightfighter” group as they did last year. This means that all gear, food and personal items will be hiked in and out of the camporee.

Additional information will be sent out in future email blasts and at troop meetings.
